Course Overview

This semester we will survey Asian, African, Middle Eastern, Latin American, and European civilizations from Pre-Modern era (@15th-20th Century). History is a story, a story about us all. The way we look at the world around us and our worldview is determined by our history. We are a product of all the generations who lived before us. History teaches us who we are by teaching us how we got here (as individuals, societies, or nations). We accomplish this by learning what humans have done in the past (good or bad) and recognize that we are also human and capable of these same actions; hopefully learning from the past and making better decisions in the present and/or future.

Meet your Professor

My name is Mr. Swisher (Robert) and I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Yooperland). I received my BA in history from Goshen College (Mennonite school in Northern Indiana) in 1991 and my MA from Northern Michigan University in 1998.
