Student Rights & Responsibilities

Academic Integrity Policy of NOVA’s Spanish Department

The Spanish courses at Northern Virginia Community College are designed to enable you  to communicate in an authentic and culturally appropriate way in your workplace, community and beyond. Clear communication - not perfection - is the expectation for students in this course. You are neither required nor expected to express yourself in written or spoken Spanish with the same level of accuracy that you write and speak in your native language(s). Your instructor will cultivate, assess and grade your Spanish writing and speaking skills with this in mind.

You may refer to your textbook as needed to complete the assignments in this course. However, cheating of any kind, including use of an online translator, such as Google Translate, to translate phrases or sentences or other outside help is strictly forbidden and will result in a grade of 0% for the assignment, whether it is a Portales activity, oral or written exam or other assessment. Students may not refer to the textbook, notes or any other resources during oral and written exams. A subsequent instance of an academic integrity violation will be reported to the academic dean and dean of students and will result in a grade of 0% for the course.

If you have a question about whether any of your course work is in violation of this policy, please contact your instructor. For more information about NOVA’s academic integrity policies, please refer to the Student Conduct & Integrity section of the Student Handbook: https://www.nvcc.edu/students/handbook/conduct.html
