Distance learning is somewhat more flexible than face-to-face instruction, but not meeting with a course instructor in person on a set schedule presents unique challenges. In addition to leveraging available support services and educational technologies, it's important for remote students to develop personal learning strategies and coursework practices essential to learning in the online environment.

The purpose of this site is to provide you with the resources and support for being successful in the online learning environment.

Mobile Application

If you plan to access the course via a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet, you should download the Canvas Student app. The Canvas Student app is the mobile version of Canvas that helps students stay current with their courses anywhere. Accessibility in Canvas

Canvas has been evaluated by Instructure and WebAIM according to WCAG 2.1 standards. The Canvas LMS strives for WCAG 2.1 Level A/AA and Section 508 conformance. Regular testing (both internal and by a third party) is conducted to identify conformance issues, with processes in place for timely remediation of accessibility issues that are identified. Office of Educational Accessibility

At Tidewater Community College, the Office of Educational Accessibility provides an array of services designed to enhance your educational experience by arranging appropriate accommodations in accordance with Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amended Act of 1990. All documentation is confidential and is not considered a part of the academic transcript. Specific services provided to students with documentation of a disability or chronic medical condition include: testing accommodations, academic accommodations, interpreter services, assistive technology, electronic textbooks, and workforce recruitment programs.
